Condensed Curt Pires
Creator Curt Pires talks with us about his DSTLRY series Galactic. Plus, a super mondo mega rundown of his other books.
Curt Pires should not be condensed, and yet that is what I have essentially done. The comics scribe (51, Fireborn, Lost Fantasy) is on a tear, with series concurrently out from Image, Oni, DSTLRY, and Mad Cave.
His style of storytelling tends to encapsulate everything good about a particular genre, while maintaining a level of awareness capable of catching you off guard. For me, books with his name on it are synonymous with fun, and I've consumed most of them in short bursts in the way I imagine comics were in the days before collected editions were guaranteed. That is to say, digestible and entertaining.
My first encounter with his work was on Galactic, an exquisite space opera with beautiful art from Amilcar Pinna (Sicko), which Pires kindly spoke to Weird City about for a short Q&A. But first, a condensed overview of some of his other recent books worth checking out...
